Questions…

With so many options available, how will you choose your path to Plant Medicine?

Each school or institution has its values, philosophy, approach to education, and costs, often making it difficult to choose.

Which style suits you?

To help you choose, we outline our methods in our unique herbal medicine training for all levels and clearly state what sets us apart and makes our group of schools unique.

Nikki Darrell - School Founder and Author

“I wish I had known these things about herbal education before training, so I created these unique herbal medicine training courses for all levels to include these key elements.

  • Would it be plant-centred, teaching herbal knowledge from the start and ensuring good plant identification skills?

  • Would it focus on local plant knowledge as well as exotic herbs?

  • Would it teach the fundamentals of herb growing, harvesting and processing?

  • Would there be experiential training in making herbal medicines rather than just dispensing ones bought from commercial manufacturers? Would we be taught to use herbs in all their forms, not just tinctures?

  • Would I be taught how to conduct client-centred consultations? And how to run workshops to pass on herbal knowledge to my community?

  • Would it include naturopathic principles such as healthy nutrition, exercise, breath work and nature connection, and a holistic approach to health and well-being?

  • In my discussions with many students and practitioners, these are felt to be the key elements to help a person blossom into the best herbalist they can be.” Nikki

We operate on a very different educational paradigm from other schools: experiential learning, formative assessment, and the development of the whole person and their achievement portfolio. This includes Sensory, Intuitive, and Transformative Herbalism. We do not advocate cramming, stressful quizzes, tests, or exams like the outdated conventional reductionist academic model. Read more:

We are recognised by several professional organisations as our methods consistently produce excellent herbalists. Several independent professional associations carry out herbal course accreditation using a similar core curriculum. There is no government accreditation system for herbal training in Ireland or the UK, and herbalists are self-regulated. Read more:

All of our courses lead on to the next level. At Home With Herbs, Traditional Herbal Apprenticeship, and our Clinical Herbal Medicine Practitioner training are part of an accredited system, from beginner to advanced. Read more:

We are economical and accessible because we are a collaborative, people-centred enterprise. For a higher-quality learning experience, we restrict our cohort to 10-18 students per stream, depending on the school. We are inclusive and have a wide diversity of students from all backgrounds and global locations. Read more:

"Studying at the Plant Medicine School for five years has been a transformative experience for me in a most amazing way. If before I had an interest in herbal medicine, now I have a passion for working with herbs, learning from them and sharing that knowledge. I loved every minute - and I will still be closely involved with the school in the future - and all aspects: from the kind, supportive and knowledgeable teachers to the curriculum, the style of studying - encouraging diversity and creativity in the process - to the community of other students that makes the school feel so authentic and alive. Enrolling in this course has probably been the best gift I gave myself."

Our unique herbal medicine training for all levels focus on the Wellness Paradigm

In our overtly pathologised society, we prefer to work from the wellness paradigm. Using herbs and naturopathic techniques we endeavour to optimise the health of our students and clients.

We collaborate with our team of experienced practitioners who run supervised clinics for the students where patients receive free herbal consultations and only pay for the medicines they receive.

What our Community Area has for you

We love supporting the growing community of people working with plants for the healing and regeneration of the natural world.

Community is fundamental to our ethos, as is sharing open-source information and knowledge.

Our developing community section features articles about plants, medicine making, recipes, and videos designed to enhance nature connection and plant identification.

We will expand this section to include stories about our community of students and graduates, sharing news about the projects they offer in their communities, book reviews, interviews, and more.

This section will have a wealth of inspiring content for you to explore.
